Sir,
I am directed
by
the Earl of
Granville to acknowledge the
receipt of your letter dated the 3rd June, enquiring whether any proposal
would be made by the Foreign Office
for a draughtimento respecting the custody of foreign prisoners belonging to Foreign
Powers landed in transit at
Hongkong.
His Lordship is of opinion that it will be better in the first
instance to request the Govt of Hongkong to provide
for the temporary custody of prisoners
and believe it would be desirable that such arrangements should be passed
through their Colonial Legislation.
